2 Easy Punch Recipes

January 7, 2016 by Merry Leave a Comment

2 Easy Punch RecipesMany years ago, before soda took over our lives, a party wasn’t a party, unless there was punch. Punch was always served in a beautiful open punch bowl, and dipped with a ladle. The matching cups were hung on the side of the bowl with little hooks. It was quite a trick to ladle the punch without dripping some down the side of the cup. And believe it or not, that little cup was usually a full serving of punch for the entire party. Sometimes, if you were lucky, you might get a second cup. Punch was generally color coordinated to match the party.

The punch bowl in the picture was purchased in the 1950’s by my mother at a dime store (what would now be the dollar store). She used it for every birthday party. The punch bowl was handed down to me when I had children, and I used it for almost all of their birthday parties. And believe it or not, even in a soda world, both children and adults loved seeing that beautiful bowl of punch out on the party table. Now this lovely antique bowl resides in a place of honor in a china hutch in my daughter’s home.

2 Easy Punch Recipes

Here are 2 easy punch recipes. They are my favorite recipes for punch. They are inexpensive, make a lot, can be made in almost any color to match the party theme, and they are sweet and delicious. I picked up the recipe for Quick Party Punch from a friend at a church social many years ago. I got the recipe for Kool-Aid Punch from my mother who served it in that very same punch bowl at my birthday parties.Quick Party Punch

Quick Party Punch is just that -- quick. Good for children's parties where you need a lot.
Author: Merry Bevill
Recipe type: Beverage
Ingredients
  • 2 cans red Hawaiian Punch
  • 1 2-liter bottle of Sprite (or 7-up)
  • ½ gal sherbet (opt)
Instructions
  1. Chill the cans of Hawaiian Punch and Sprite. At party time, combine all ingredients in a large punch bowl.
Notes
Use different combinations of punch and sherbet to alter the color to match the party theme. A good combination is Cran-Raspberry Juice + Raspberry Sherbet.

I usually double this recipe.

This recipe originated back in the 1950's and was served under the name PTA punch, because it was so economical to make, it was served to large gatherings such as the PTA meetings, church socials, and school parties.
Author: Merry Bevill

  • 2 pkg Kool-aid (any color)
  • 2 large cans pineapple juice
  • 2 cups sugar (if using unsweetened Kool-aid)

Hi, My name is Merry. My daughters are grown and married, and have given me 7 delightful grandchildren to love and spoil. Caught on the cusp of "ready to retire" and "not able to retire just yet", with Social Security checks still looming on the horizon, and with AARP membership notices flooding my mailbox, I have my eyes turned toward the future.
